About Obrayan Calderon
I am from a Province of Mayabeque in the Municipality of Santa Cruz del Norte, Cuba. My principal instrucment is the trombone, however I also am a pianist, percussionist and singer.
I started my music studies at the Art Vocational School (E. V. A.) in the year 2005-2010 and from there I finished my studies and went to the middle level of National School of Art (E. N. A.) from 2010-2013. After finishing my studies I started doing my social service in the same school I studied and at the same time I worked in several Cuban popular music orchestras and made many recordings for orchestras like:
Manolito Simonet y su Trabuco., Juan Carlos Alfonzo y su Dan Den.
Lastly, I was in the prestigious Cuban orchestra Adalberto Alvarez and du Son with which I recorded on his latest album Pal Mundo Entero. Additionaly with this group I traveled to many countries such as Germany, France, Italy, Venezuela, Colombia, Panama and more. Lastly, I came to this great country.
Since coming to the United States I have made my residency in California (San Francisco Bay Area). I have been teaching a variety of music classes at the OPC (Oakland Public Conservatory) where they warmly welcomed me and for this I feel very blessed. I have also taught as artist in residence at high schools in the bay area as well as SF Jazz affiliates.
Additionally I have worked with many musical groups of different styles in the Bay Area including well known artists such as Jesus Diaz, John Santos, Edgardo Cambon, Avance, Rebecca Mouleon, Fito Reinoso, Rey Martinez, Fantastic Negrito, Calmao, Mario y su Timbeko, MJ Brass Brand, The Futuralics and The Return of James Brown among others.
